PROGRAM AND PRESENTERS:
Electrical 101 presented by Rich Van Wert
Residential Electricity and the Home Inspector.
This course will begin at the service and discuss the requirements for the sizing, and location of the service equipment. This includes the Grounding Electrode Conductor (GEC) and the Grounded Conductor size and material.
Rules governing Solar PV will be covered.
Safety rules contained in NFPA 70 E as they relate to the residential service will be explained.
Additional subjects include:
- Device box type size and location.
- Tamper resistant receptacles.
- Arc fault circuit interrupters.
- GFCI rules.
- Dedicated circuits.
- Knob and tube wiring and inspection.
- Smoke alarms in existing dwellings.
- Carbon monoxide detectors.
- Weather-resistant receptacles.

Rich is a Board Member and President of the Benjamin Franklin Chapter of IAEI. He is employed full time as a Senior Electrical Inspector and supervises a staff of Inspectors that serves the five county southeast Pennsylvania metropolitan areas. Rich can speak on the contemporary issues facing the Electrical Contractor and weave in a touch of practicality as someone who has “been there, done that”.
Old Building Inspections presented by Bill Kibbel
Bill Kibbel is The Home Inspector and review editor for The Old House Web. Bill is an inspector and consultant that specializes in historic buildings. He has inspected more than 10,000 buildings between 100 and 350 years old and has been a consultant to historic sites in several States. Bill is a veteran old-house owner and restorer and has been contributing to OHW since 2001.
Bill is also vice president of Tri-County Inspection Company which serves Southeastern Pennsylvania and Central NewJersey. He specializes in pre-19th century residential / commercial buildings

David Goldstein is the Director of Training for Building Inspector’s Career Institute; a New Jersey state licensed vocational school. David is a charter member of the National Association of Home Inspectors®. He is also a long time Certified Member of the American Society of Home Inspectors® (ASHI) and has served on many state and national committees and boards throughout the years. David has been in the home inspection profession since 1974 and has performed thousands of inspections throughout the United States and Canada on residential, commercial and industrial properties ranging in age from
still‐under‐construction to over 300 years old. David is a New Jersey and New York licensed Home Inspector and holds licenses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in multiple code enforcement areas. He has been training people to become home inspectors for over 20 years and currently teaches the NJ Home Inspector licensing course and continuing education courses throughout the country. David is also currently serving as the President of the New Jersey Association of Home Inspectors.
